Yeah it sounds like you had a slightly different issue but still an annoying one.

I didn't see anything resembling a service bulletin name/number listed on the receipt but it's possibly something I can check back on.

It doesn't lock but it stays forward pretty well. Mine must have more friction and a tighter grip on the "track" it rides on as I haven't had an issue with it sliding back unless I push it back on purpose.

UPDATE I recently had the car into the dealership to address this issue and it seems to have finally been resolved, as I have not had the issue reappear since. I was able to drive it to the dealership one morning when it started acting up and, when I arrived, both a shop worker and technician...

Had this taken care of a few weeks ago when the car was in for the weird electrical issue. The dealership had just received parts for the repair so I had them address both while it was in.

I have had the console lid moved to the forward position for the past three months now and I can say it IS considerably more comfortable.

When you say massive, how much of an improvement are you talking about? I tried running 93 in mine for a while and only saw maybe an improvement of up to 1.5 mpg on some fill-ups compared to what I was running on 87. I've been back on 87 for a while now. I've seen more of an increase in mileage...
